Course content
Business in transport, public transport services, performances in the public interest. Funding of transport companies, principles of transportation and tariff policy in transport. Analysis of factors influencing demand of transportation services of a transport enterprise. Analysis of factors influencing supply of transport enterprise outputs. Cost and revenue of a transport enterprise, their dynamics and influence on profit and operating results of a transport enterprise. Deciding on transport in terms of logistics costs. External costs in transport and their internalisation. Economic costs and types of congestions. Indicators characterizing and affecting the efficiency of traffic in railway, road and air transport. Preparation and planning of transportation services of a transport enterprise. Pricing in transportation services. Investing in vehicles and their optimal recovery. Evaluation of investment in transport infrastructure.

Learning outcomes
Specialities and principles of transport business. Financing of transport enterprises. Transport and tariff policy. Analysis of transport demand, structure of transport market, characteristics and factors of transport demand, transport demand elasticity. Evaluation of time savings in transport. Measurement of demand and transport market analysis. Analysis of transport supply, characteristics of supply, factors of supply of quality transport services, transport supply elasticity. Costs in transport sector. Costs of a transport enterprise, structure and dynamics. Evaluation of prime costs influence on economics of a transport enterprise. Costs of an user of transport. External costs in transport. Economic costs and types of congestions. Deciding on transport in terms of logistics costs. Indicators characterizing and affecting the efficiency of traffic in railway, road and air transport. Planning and optimizing of traffic operation. Pricing in transport services, price discrimination in transport, price setting at stochastic demand, price setting in peak traffic. Investing in vehicles and their optimal recovery. Evaluation of investment in transport infrastructure.
After passing the subject students gain ability to analyse basic conditions of undertaking in transport, factors influencing the range of demand and supply in transport, revenues and costs of a transportation company, including external costs in transport. They will receive abilities to analyse and measure indicators that characterise transport process in each transport kind and their influence on transportation services pricing. They will gain knowledge about basic principles of evaluation of transport investment effectiveness.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination

A student must prove understanding of the solving problems and ability to judge and evaluate independently the analysis of interaction of transport demand and transport supply to costs, yields and earnings of transport enterprise, including pricing of transport services during the term and within final exam. A student has to understand solving problems in forwarding business during the term and the final exam, first of all calculation concerning transportation, business activity of a forwarder and he/she learns to apply piece of knowledge to his possible final work. The tutor will notify the concrete requirements to students within the first week of the term.
