A window into the "world of science" - a process and philosophy of scientific cognition¨. Research problem, object and subject of research. General scientific methods of scientific research. Qualitative and quantitative research methods. Methods working with uncertainty. R&D outputs - written reports, dissertations and arguments. Selection of suitable publication media (journals with impact factors, its evaluation, basics of scientometry etc.). Structure of a scientific publication. Clarivate Analytics and selected databases. R&D results transfer into practice and impact evaluation of applied results.

Výstupy z učení

The course aims are PhD students introduce to attributes of scientific R&D, methods and approaches used in scientific research. Students will be acquainted with principles of publishing and a scientific work the ethics.
A student who has passed the course will be able to: - articulate a methodology for the resolution of a specific scientific problem, including the rationale behind the selection of suitable scientific methods - propose an appropriate scientific method for their research - list the problems it may encounter and suggest solutions - assess the publishing strategy, including the suitability of the journal/conference for publication in accordance with the needs of their research and the faculty - design the publication procedure so that it meets the ethical requirements imposed on scientific work.

Hodnoticí metody a kritéria

Posouzení zadané práce, Prezentace
Students will prepare an essay that it deals with a topic of his/her dissertation. The topic is focused to the corresponding area relevant to the Ford which mentions "Transportation". Its range is about of 3000 to 5000 words. He/she applies selected topics of science methodology and uses the corresponding area of "Transportation" Ford. The work will contain an analysis/comparative part of chosen problem. A necessary condition for completing the course is its presentation and defence.
