Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Graphic and art activities
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint the student with the basics of design of freight and passenger railway vehicles. The student should understand the function of the basic vehicle systems and the principles of their design.
During the course, the students are given the knowledge of basic elements of freight and passenger rail vehicles and understand the principles of their design. They are capable of solving simple tasks of design of mechanical components and systems of non-powered railway vehicles.
Prerequisites
The student is assumed to have the knowledge from the course Strength of Materials I.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination, Home assignment evaluation

The condition for credit is active attendance to the tutorial lessons (the way of compensation of missed lessons to be specified by the teacher) and completion of assigned computational and design exercises. The exam consists of writing and oral parts, emphasis being put on graphical expressing of the student (sketching of design components and systems).
