Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming), Projection, Laboratory work
Learning outcomes
The objective of the subject is to inform students about principles of theory and construction of the internal combustion engines (IC engines) in overland means of transportation.
After passing the subject, the student is able to understand the elementary terms; s/he has knowledge in requirements for motor fuels; s/he is familiarized with hydrocarbon fuel combustion; s/he knows both the theoretical and real cycles, understands the crankshaft mechanism and kinematics as well as torsional vibrations, and knows the construction of the piston group, crankcase, engine block, head of cylinder, timing mechanisms, cooling and lubrication systems, S/he knows the function of fuel systems in SI (Petrol) and CI (Diesel) engines.
Prerequisites
Elementary knowledge of secondary school mathematics, physics, and thermomechanics is expected.
Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination
The student must prove, during the semester and at the final examination, that s/he is able to make use of his/her knowledge acquired from the theory and construction of reciprocating IC engines in solving practical tasks within the scope of the subject-matter s/he has been taught. The students will be informed about the specific requirements by the teacher in the first week of the semester.
