Course content
|
Special wheelset types. Detailed explanation of calculation of a parabolic spring for standard freight wagon running gear. Historical development of freight wagon running gear. Less used types of contemporary two-axle freight bogies, many-axled freight bogies, bogies with small wheels. Historical development of passenger coach running gear. Contemporary types of two-axle high-speed bogies, unconventional passenger coach bogie types. Historical development of draw and buffer gear, automatic coupling. Heating, ventilation and air-conditioning sytems of passenger coaches, thermical calculations of tank and refrigerator wagons. Statically indetermined constructions of rail vehicles.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to acquaint the students with the historical development of design of freight wagons and coaches, with design of modern and unconventional types of freight wagons and coaches, and with unconventional elements used in vehicle design.
After passing the course, student is capable of designing unconventional types of freight wagons and coaches and unconventional elements used in freight wagons and coaches.

Student has to comprehend the principles of design elements of unconventional freight wagons and coaches and to demonstrate it in an exam. Requirements will be told by the lecturer in the first week.
