Course content
Undercarriage: Division of road vehicles, categories, total ordering, basic proportions and weights. Frames and bodies, driven and drive rigid and swinging axles. Wheels, rims, tyres, suspension, shock absorbers, stabilizers. Steering, steering geometry, parts of steering, steering gearboxes, steering boosters. Drum and disc brakes, hydraulic and compressed-air brake system. Antilock break systems. Transmission mechanism: Disc, multi-disc, centrifugal, electromagnetic, hydrodynamic, automatic clutches. Gearboxes; synchronization; planetary, semi-automatic and automatic gearboxes. Hydrodynamic torque converter, auxiliary gearboxes. Articulated shafts, articulations, axle dives, differentials. Combustion engines: Total ordering, division, fuels, theory of engines. Construction and function of immovable and movable parts of engine. Fuel systems of petrol engines. Fuel systems of diesel engines, lubrication and cooling systems. Time-lag, conclusions of talked over subject matter.

Learning outcomes
Subject objective is acquainting students with basics of structural design, principles of working and running of main groups and subgroups of road vehicles.
After complete the examination of this subject student is able to draw, describe and explain function of particular parts of undercarriage, transmission mechanisms and car combustion engines.
Prerequisites
Encompassment of physics at secondary school level is supposed.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination

Student must evidence understanding principles of constructions, working and principles of running all chassis particular parts, transmissions and combustion engines of cars during semester and also during final examination to the extent of talked over subject matter. Concrete requirements will be told students in the first week of semester by their teacher.
