Course content
Basics of railway vehicles. Wheelset. Adhesion problematics basics. Axle bearing. Gearboxes. Suspension and select problems of applied dynamics basics. Primary suspension and wheelset guiding. Secondary suspension. Rubber elements. Longitudinal forces transmission between body case and boogies. Wheelset drives Part 1. Wheelset drives Part 2. Examples of real vehicle construction layouts.

Learning outcomes
To introduce students with the basics of the main mechanical parts of traction rail vehicles.
Students are cognizant of the basic construction layout of railway traction vehicle, understand the function of its separate parts and are able to carry out a basic construction project of individual parts of railway traction vehicle undercarriage.
Prerequisites
Students should have elementary knowledge of mathematics, physics, mechanics and machine parts.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination, Creative work analysis

The examination consists of a test and an oral part.
