Course content
Vehicle guiding on a straight track. Geometrical characteristics of the wheel/rail contact. Curved track, vehicle on a curved track. Vehicle guiding by a curved track. Heumann's method - forces between vehicle and track. Forces exerted on a vehicle underframe. Adhesion, slip, spin; slip forces, forces in a horizontal plane. Safety against derailment. Wheel load changes on a twisted track. Vehicle body seating on bogies. Vehicle suspension. Theory of vehicle body elastic seating. Vehicle dynamics basics.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming), Projection, Skills training
Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to acquaint the students with the issues concerning guiding of a vehicle on a straight and a curved track, force actions between vehicle and track in curves. In the next part, the course deals with vehicle suspension, theory of vehicle body elastic seating, and basics of vehicle running dynamics.
After havin passed the course, student is capable of analysing vehicle running on straight and curved track with appropriate calculations - running behaviour, guiding of vehicles and protection against derailment. Furthermore, student can design basic parameters of vehicle suspension and analyse dynamic peformance of a vehicle running on straight and curved track.
Prerequisites
The course enrolment for Erasmus students is possible only after an approval of the course lecturer/guarantor based on a proof of previously taken courses and their content.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination, Home assignment evaluation

The student needs to have knowledge from the field of design of road vehicles, their operation and repair and mechanics.
