Course content
Water act, water management, its stages and duties, hydraulic structures, reservoirs, open channel hydraulics fundamentals. Rivers and watercourses, sediment transport, river morphology and categories, rivers in the world, rivers in the Czech Republic. Purposes, principles and ways of river training. Adaptation of river bed, design flow rate, bank lining, longitudinal and transverse channel profiles, stream bed protection, concentration structures, natural and urban river training, river revitalisation. Weirs and dams, division (according material and construction types), plan layout, purpose, operation, accessories. Dams in the world and in the Czech Republic, dam breakdown. River navigability, regulation and canalization; inland waterways, canals and their structures. Waterways in the Czech Republic and EU. Watercourses and communications crossing, water management interests. Bridges and culverts, principles of design, hydraulic function, and design flow rate, bridge spare clearance.

Learning outcomes
Students will acquire with basic principles of hydraulic structures and water management, rivers and watercourses, river training, weirs and dams, inland waterways and principles of communications and watercourses crossing.
The course deals with the basic principles, roles and methods of the water management. Student will get acquainted with rivers and watercourses, river training, weirs, dams and reservoirs, inland waterways and principles of communications and watercourses crossing.
Prerequisites
Examines of Physics and Hydraulics and Hydrology on the level of the courses passed.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination

Attendance at seminars is compulsory. Students are to pass test during a term. In a case of absence (in justified cases) students are given an extra test. Form and content of examination are determined in educational and examinational regulations UPce.
