Course content
|
Introduction and continuity of knowledge in the design of highways, motorways, and urban roads. Basic principles of transport engineering for the design of intersections. Terminology for designing at-grade and grade-separated intersections. Classification of intersections and methods for channelizing traffic flow. Design elements of intersections and their evaluation. Design elements of roundabouts and their evaluation. Design elements of grade-separated intersections/interchanges. Capacity assessment of at-grade and grade-separated intersections. Specifics of intersection design on urban roads. The issue of intersections controlled by traffic signals. Pedestrian transportation in intersection areas. Cycling transportation in intersection areas. Final summary.
