Course content
Introduction to urban roads, specifics of traffic operation, legislation, principles, and criteria. Functional groups of urban roads, road network and its hierarchy, design elements. Performance of urban roads, traffic surveys, ational traffic survey (CSD), traffic prognosis. Barrier-free design of public buildings, width requirements, cross-links in the street space. Modal Split, organization and regulation of traffic, tools-goals, traffic induction, traffic calming, and zonal measures. Parking management, determining the number of parking spaces, parking lot layout, space requirements, static and dynamic capacity of parking lots. Car parks, categorization, design elements, types of ramps, car park structures. Pedestrian pathways ? width arrangement of sidewalks and paved lanes, principles of performance assessment. Cyclist pathways ? routing for cyclists, width arrangement of cycle paths, bicycle parking facilities. Intersections ? principles of design and layout of grade intersections (UK) and roundabouts OK, performance, harmony between road layout and traffic flow, canalization of traffic, swept path analysis. Intersections ? principles of design and layout of grade seperated interchanges (MUK), clasification, types of ramps, collector functions, speed profile and traffic engineering design principles, Public transport ? routing within the street space, design of bus stops, and accessibility requirements. Intersections with traffic signals (SSZ), principles, criteria for the use of traffic signals, and design of signalling plans.

Learning outcomes
To introduce students to the specifics of urban road design and their functions, including the shaping and composition of street space and the management and design of parking lots.
After completing the course, students gain basic knowledge and skills in the field of urban road design.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of design road structures.
