Learning outcomes
The aim is to teach students to understand the properties of the building materials in practice of civil engineering. The aim of the lectures is to explain physical and chemical principles of the building materials, further to present related produce principles and various testing of building materials during their lifetime cycle not only in transport structures. The lecture focuses on description of building materials: aggregates, binders, ceramics, glass, concrete, timber, bitumen, metals and polymers.
After completing the course are students able to define and describe building materials according to mechanical, physical and geometric properties of material. They have theoretical basic in chemical substance of the materials and their inner processes. Student is able to realize the basic tests of the building materials and theoretical understands other tests in the field of the aggregate, cement, concrete, metals, bitumen and chemical composition of substances.
