- cross-section characteristics - centroid of cross-section of the planar figures, 2nd order moments of cross-section of the planar figures, Steiner's theorem, 2nd order moments for axis under rotation and extreme values of 2nd order moments, radius and ellipse of 2nd order moments of cross-section - theorems of virtual work - deformation of statically determinate structures - evaluation of the degree of static indeterminate - methods of analysis of the statically indeterminate structures ? force method - statically indeterminate plane frame - effect of the uniform and non-uniform temperature changes along the frame - influence of supports relaxation - statically indeterminate continuous girder - force and deflection loadings - statically indeterminate plane trusses

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing)
  • Home preparation for classes - 68 hours per semester
  • Preparation for a credit (assessment) - 30 hours per semester
  • Preparation for an exam - 30 hours per semester
  • Contact teaching - 52 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
Introduction to cross-section characteristics. Explanation of the principle of virtual work and theorem of reciprocity of virtual work. The calculation of deformations by the method of unit forces. Force method of structural analysis of statically indeterminate plane frames, planar bar systems, continuous girder, including the effect of support relaxation and the temperature influence.
Student will be able (i) to calculate deflection and rotation of statically determined structures and (ii) to analyse internal forces of statically undetermined structures using force method.
