Course content
Nomenclature and basic terms of railway transport, developments of railway transport and rail network in Czech republic and in other countries, future intentions in development of railway transport, interoperability, management in rail transport. Geometrical characteristics of railway track, track gauge, track gauge widening, superelevation, gradient due to superelevation. Design and assessment of horizontal alignment, horizontal arcs and transitions. Design and assessment of vertical alignment. Spatial position of railway track, structural clearances. Planning and design of railway track. Planning and design od substructure of railway track. Design and assessment of sub-ballast layers. Substrukcture drainage system of railway track. Planning and design od superstructure of railway track. Continuous welded rail.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basic tasks of track geometry design and assessment, railway track and substructure and superstructure planning and design, including the elaboration of project documentation.
After completing the course, student gain basic knowledge and skills in the field of railway track design.
