Course content
Introduction and continuity of knowledge in the design of highways, motorways, and urban roads. Basic principles of transport engineering for the design of intersections. Terminology for designing at-grade and grade-separated intersections. Classification of intersections and methods for channelizing traffic flow. Design elements of intersections and their evaluation. Design elements of roundabouts and their evaluation. Design elements of grade-separated intersections/interchanges. Capacity assessment of at-grade and grade-separated intersections. Specifics of intersection design on urban roads. The issue of intersections controlled by traffic signals. Pedestrian transportation in intersection areas. Cycling transportation in intersection areas. Final summary.

Learning outcomes
To acquaint students with the principles of safety design of intersections on highways, motorways and urban roads.
After completing the course, the student is familiar with the safety design of intersections on highways, motorways and urban roads.

Basic knowledge of road design.
