Course content
1. Geotechnical survey for underground structures, rock classification 2. Rock and soil mechanics as part of the scientific discipline of mining geomechanics. 3. The relationship between a rock sample and a mountain massif. 4. Strength and deformation behavior of rocks and its influencing factors. 5. Methods, hypotheses and theories describing and explaining the stress-strain behavior of rocks. 6. Technical properties of rocks 7. Energy hypotheses of decoupling. 8. Hypotheses of limit states of rocks and mountain massifs. 9. Basic laboratory tests 10. Preparation of a semester thesis. 11. Excursion to a construction site

Learning outcomes
Students will gain knowledge about the basic assessment of rock environments. Students will be introduced to the physical, mechanical and technological properties of rocks and rock environments and their verification by laboratory and field tests.
After completing the course, student gain basic knowledge and skills in the rock mechanics.
