Course content
Stochastic character of loads. Material fatigue. Fatigue properties of the material. Fatigue curves. Cumulative theory of fatigue damage. Methods of theoretical assessments of service life. Linear hypotheses of fatigue damage. Other hypotheses for life estimation. Operational loads of structures. Strain gauges. Experimental methods of fatigue material characteristics obtaining. Empirical methods of obtaining of fatigue material characteristics Experiments on dynamic test stands.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to increase knowledge in the field of fatigue and service life of steel transport structures. According to high-cycle character of loads of transport structures, emphasis is placed on high-cycle fatigue and its evaluation both from the point of view of newly designed structures and from the point of view of existing structures. Other types of fatigue (low-cycle fatigue) and evaluation approaches (fracture mechanics) are mentioned only partially.
After completing the course, student is familiar with the evaluation of high-cyclic fatigue of transport structures.
