Course content
Utilization of microwaves. Electromagnetic wave properties. Electromagnetic wave propagation. Two-antenna power transmission. Basic types and properties of microwave transmission lines. Scattering parameters and impedance matching. Microwave integrated circuits. Transmission line discontinuities. Linear microwave transmission line with distributed parameters. 90o hybrid, magic T, couplers. Resonators. Gyrotropic medium propagation, circulators and isolators. Space and ground waves. Ionosphere wave propagation. Directional and impedance antenna properties of systems. Antenna measurements. Dipoles. Antenna arrays and Yagi antennas. Antenna characteristic design and synthesis. Wide-band, horn, reflector and lens antennas. Electromagnetic compatibility.

Learning outcomes
The aim is to demonstrate the utilization of microwaves at transportation and communications, properties of electromagnetic waves, the basic types of microwave transmission lines, discontinuities, scattering parameters, distributed-parameter microwave networks, space and ground propagations, antenna properties and electromagnetic compatibility.
Students are able to orientate in RF and microwaves.
Prerequisites
The basic knowledge of electromagnetics, differentiation and integration are supposed.

Oral examination

Students should demonstrate understating of solved problems.
