Introduction to traction problems, overview of traction supply systems in the world, statistics Conception of traction vehicles and their traction characteristics Tractive resistance Reduced track profile Train movement phases, train movement equation Availability speed of train, Koref's nomogram Adhesion Phenomena influencing adhesion utilization Non constant velocity movement of train, necessary adhesion weight Braking systems - air break, braking distance, braking weight Braking systems - wheel slide protection, dynamic brakes, rail brakes Energy consumption of electric traction, efficiency of traction vehicles, railway supply systems Energy consumption components

Learning outcomes
Course, Electric Traction I, is focused on problems of train movement (i.e. tractive resistance, train dynamics, availability speed, adhesion etc.). Next part of the course is focused on braking systems. Last part of the course is focused on energy consumption of traction vehicles and their efficiency.
A student has knowledge about traction mechanics problems (i.e. tractive resistances, adhesion, braking). Student can calculate available train speed, necessary adhesion weight and breaking distance.
Prerequisites
A student should have this knowledge: Electrotechnics and Physics of mass point.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination

Seminar work. Oral examination of theoretical knowledge.
