Course content
Hardware of PCs, computer architecture, description of individual computer parts, peripherals of a computer. Mobile and pocket computers. Computer networks, classification of computer networks, passive and active elements, network models ISO/OSI and TCP/IP, wireless networks. Software. Operating systems, user extensions of an operating system. Application software, overview, brief characteristics and possibilities of use of individual software products. Office software, MS Office 2010. Computer operation in the MS Windows 7 operating system, installation and configuration of an operating system. Applications provided with the MS Windows operating system. Internet, Internet architecture, Internet connection. Internet services. E-mail. WWW, searching the Internet. FTP. Telnet, SSH. Video conferences. Internet telephony. Publishing in the Internet. Creating documents in a text editor, formatting the text, inserting tables and pictures, writing mathematical expressions using an equation editor, drawing basic geometrical shapes and organisation diagrams. Basic computer typography. DTP. Processing of graphical information. Bitmap and vector graphics. Graphics editors. Animations. Processing of audio and video. Digitalizing of graphical patterns, OCR, digital photography. Using the CAD systems. Presentation programs. Creating multimedia presentations. Basics of working with a spreadsheet processor. Entering data, formatting, formulas, functions, links. Graphs of data and functions, creating and modifying graphs. Development tools. Programming languages.

Learning outcomes
Achieving an overview of technical and hardware and software of PCs and mobile devices and of possibilities of their use. Mastering the operation of the computer in the MS Windows 7 operating system. Learning to use basic Internet services. Mastering the processing of a document using a text editor and a graphics editor, mastering the basic work with a spreadsheet processor.
After finishing the course students have an overview of technical and hardware and software of PCs and of possibilities of its use. Students are able to use the MS Windows 7 operating system, basic Internet services. Work commonly with a text and a graphics editor and with a spreadsheet processor.
Prerequisites
Assumed basic knowledge of PC operating system MS Windows.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination

Given assignment confirms that a student has attended lessons to the extent required and fulfilled qualified requirements. Conditions for credit are: active work at exercises, min. 75% presence. Form, contents and length of the exam are determined in accordance with Study and Examining Rules of University of Pardubice. The exam consists of two parts, a practical test and a theoretical exam. Student passes successfully the practical part of the exam as well as the theoretical part of the exam if he/she obtains at minimum 50% of possible points.
