Kinds of deterioration of construction materials (ductile fracture, brittle fracture, fatigue, creep, wear, aging, diffusion processes, carbonatation, etc.). Mechanisms and time course of individual degradation processes; main factors. Corrosion (various kinds), cavitation. Material-related problems of degradation processes and fracture. Principles of theory of plasticity and fracture mechanics for the analysis of failures. Theoretical tools for other degradation processes. Mathematical description of failure, prediction of the time to the attaining of limit state. Principles of fractographic analysis, its use for the determination of failure causes.
