Fundamentals of the fractography, rupture mechanism principles. Cast steels and cast iron. Cast imperfections, possibility their indication and elimination. Non-ferrous metal alloys; composites. Summary of the lectures.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming)
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to inform students about properties and service behaviour of the selected groups of materials which mainly apply to the vehicular transport means. It is also providing general information about their treatment and use, each degradation mechanisms as a direct consequence of the processing technology and operation loading regime.
On the course completion the students have skills for the correct choice of the processing technology, they are able to solve operation problems in connection with components and construction failure. The students are able to design suitable materials, to dimension the machine parts and to interpret the application dangers due to loading conditions.
Prerequisites
Required is the fundamental knowledge of internal building and behaviour of materials in accordance to the content of a course Materials Science.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination

The requirements will be defined by the lecturer.
