Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming)
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course unit is to explain basic kinds of loading and failure of components, to teach the students to determine stresses and deformations in simpler cases (bars and beams loaded in tension, compression, bending and torsion and their combinations, buckling and fatigue), and to evaluate the safety of a component or to propose the cross-section dimensions for given load and demanded degree of safety.
After having absolved Strength of materials I, student understands basic kinds of loading and failure of components. He/she is able to calculate stresses and deformations in simpler cases (bars and beams loaded in tension, compression, bending and torsion and their combinations, buckling and fatigue). He is able to evaluate the safety of a component or to propose the cross-section dimensions for given load and demanded degree of safety.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of Mechanics ? Statics (successful examination) and principles of Calculus.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination

The requirements will be defined by lecturer
