Failure of structures and systems. Inherent and operational reliability. Load and limit states of structures. Deterministic and probabilistic methods for reliability assessment in design stage (LRF design according to codes, load-resistance interference method). Determination of failure probability and time to failure. Reliability of complex systems. Simulation methods for reliability assessment (Monte Carlo). Failure modes and effects analysis. Experimental determination of reliability characteristics. Operational reliability. Failure rate. Mean time between failures and repair. Approaches to maintenance. Diagnostics, its aim and relation to reliability. Principal diagnostic characteristics, their limit values. Structure of diagnostic systems. Diagnostics of mechanical structures. Evaluation of actual state, prediction of time to failure.
