Course content
Importance and position of logistic centres (LC) in logistics systems. History and current trends of development of logistic centres in the Czech Republic and the world. LC planning, localisation models and optimization of LC localisation. Forms, functions of the LC and range of services provided. Technical and technological concept of the LC, transhipment and storage systems. Information and communication systems, tracking of goods and means of transport. City logistics and its importance for cities and urban agglomerations in terms of efficiency and environmental protection. Distribution models used in city logistics. Inland ports, their planning, management and operation in logistics chains. Intermodal transport in relation to logistics centres, logistics parks and industrial zones. Legal and ownership forms of administration and management of logistics centres. LC and the environment. New trends in logistics and transport processes. Telematic technology, "Internet of Things". Case studies from logistics centres in the Czech Republic and abroad.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce the students to the issues of establishing and operating logistics centres and their importance in logistic chains.
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to characterise various forms of logistics centres, their function in logistic chains and the basic procedures for planning logistics centres.
