Course content
Week 1: Silicon, silicon dioxide - production and properties. Week 2: Silicates - division, raw material base. Week 3: Mining and processing of silicate rocks and minerals. Week 4: Basic building materials. Week 5: Binders. Week 6: Glass. Week 7: Technical use of glasses. Week 8: Coarse ceramics - brick making. Week 9: Fine ceramics. Week 10: Glaze, enamel. Week 11: Composite materials based on aluminosilicates. Week 12: Machines and equipment for processing silicates. Week 13: Basic physical, mechanical and thermomechanical properties of building materials, ceramics and glasses.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the products of the silicate industry and ceramics. Students will get information about mining and processing of input raw materials. And students acquire knowledge about the physical, mechanical and thermomechanical properties of building materials, ceramics and glasses.

Knowledge of course: Inorganic Technology, Principles of Physical Chemistry, Chemical Engeneering
