Course content
Current trends in information technologies, information systems and PC networks, Internet. Internet connection, IP addressing, URL structure, remote network access, unwanted infiltration of PC networks. Use of Internet for searching information, search tools. Chemical and health informatics. Electronic information resources. Electronic information resources, Web of Science databases, ProQuest, ScienceDirect, Wiley Online Library, etc. Experimental data processing in Microsoft Excel 2010/2016, work with pivot table and graph. Extracting data from external databases and files, working with databases. Mathematical-statistical analysis of experimental data - data analysis, dependence. Mathematical-statistical analysis of experimental data - data analysis, dependence. Laboratory Information System (LIS), Hospital Information System (NIS) - theoretical basis, operation. Learning outcomes
The course acquaints students with the basics of information technology, computer networks and computer network Internet. Significant part of the course is devoted to chemical and medical informatics and selected add-on functions of Microsoft Excel 2010 for processing experimental data obtained in the framework of bachelor and master thesis. An integral part is the theoretical and practical introduction to the Laboratory Information System and the Hospital Information System and their control. Teaching takes place in specialized classrooms with the possibility of practical training on selected software, information retrieval using database systems and basics of work in LIS and OpenLIMS mode. The practical skills are proven by questions and tasks (theory 20%, MS Excel 45% and Internet databases 35% of the final exam).
