Course content
Basic types of cell-to-cell communication. Signaling molecule types. Membrane-bound receptors. Enzyme-coupled receptors. Tyrosine-specific kinases, the MAP kinase cascade. Ion channel coupled receptors. G-protein coupled receptors. The second messenger. Guanylate cyclase and NO-synthase signaling pathways. Intracellular receptors. Mechanism of steroid and thyroid hormone action. The GTPase superfamily and their cellular functions.

The subject introduces the student to knowledge in the field of cell signaling. It builds on the knowledge of biochemistry.
