Course content
Contemporary standard economics (mainstream) - paradigm, methodology, genesis, current state, problems, new trends and perspectives, economic and political consequences. Microeconomic analysis of demand (optimum of the individual maximizing the benefit, optimum of the individual maximizing the expenditure, alternative approaches). Company theory, maximizing target behavior of companies, choice of technology, minimizing costs (comparative statics). Analysis of market structures, imperfect competition in the conditions of the Czech economy. Alternative theories of the company (managerial and behavioral, the model of the employee company, the influence of institutional economics). Factor markets, trends in connection with globalization processes. Traditional and new manifestations of market failure and their solutions. Macroeconomic equilibrium, basic neo-Keynesian textbook models and approaches of the new Keynesian economy (including implications for economic policy). Selected problems and principles of open economy in the context of neo-Keynesian and new Keynesian economics. Models of economic growth.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to increase the level of economic thinking of doctoral students, to acquaint them with the latest knowledge in the field of microeconomic and macroeconomic theory (in the context of their specialization) and to deepen the ability to apply economic theory to economic practice.
The student will be able to use the acquired knowledge in the field of microeconomics and macroeconomics, will be able to formulate approaches to solving selected economic problems, apply theoretical knowledge to specific problems; appropriately present these solutions and defend them with the necessary arguments.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of standard topics at the level of the final state examination in Economics (Microeconomics and Macroeconomics).

Oral exam verifying the knowledge of the doctoral student in the scope of compulsory literature. Part of the exam is also the elaboration and presentation of a selected problem, taking into account the focus of the dissertation, in the form of a scientific article.
