Course content
The structure of atom. Atomic nuclei and electronic shell. Periodic table of elements. Chemical bonds, types of them. Priciples of MO-LCAO. Bond polarity. Elektronic structural formula. VSEPR model. Hybridization. Chemical reaction. Basic term sof thermodynamics. Kinetice of chemical reaction. Katalysis. Chemical equilibrium and possibilities of affecting it. Tudory of acids and basis. Chemistry of most important nonmetallic elements - hydrogen, halogens, oxygen, sulphur, nitrogen, phosphorus, silicium. General methods of metals´ production and rafination. Chemistry of most important nontransition ( alkali metals, Al) and transition metals (Mn, Cr, Fe, Cu).

Learning outcomes
Students acquire basic conception about atom construction, chemical bond, chemical reactions and solvents. They learn basic chemistry of the most important nonmetals and technicaly important metals as well.
Understanding relation between structure and properties/reactivity of compounds. Practical encompassement.
Prerequisites
basic knowledge of chemistry from gymnasium

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination

Concurrent control during semester - two tests. Sucessful passing of exam, which has both, written and oral parts.
