Solid State Chemistry describes and explains the syntheses, preparation methods of amorphous, glassy, nano- and microcrystalline solids, of single crystals and sintered materials. Based on quantum approach, classical and statistical thermodynamics, it explains the formation of compounds, intermediate phases, bertholides, daltonides, nano-materials and glasses, the formation of intrinsic and extrinsic defects of crystals and of amorphous state. Large attention is paid to the structure of solids, to phase-change processes (equilibria s-s, s-l, s-g, l-g, non-equilibrium changes), to high pressure effects and high temperature processes and to defects formation and their influence on physico-chemical properties of metals, glasses, semiconductors and dielectrics. The optical, electrical, catalytic and magnetic properties of solids are discussed. Attention is also paid to applications of solids in chemistry, medicine, electronics, optics and optoelectronics and in information technologies.
