Course content
Practical colour management in page-layout software Text processing (text encoding and font formats) Prepress for various printing techniques and product types Output formats (PostScript and PDF, PDF/X standards) Checking of print data (print data file issues and preflight) Page layout for electronic publishing Structural packaging design In seminars: setting up the interface, colour management, working with fonts, typesetting (import, editing and formatting of text and graphic elements, use of automatic page elements), exporting to the output format, checking and editing of PDF parameters, working with preflight tools, basics of packaging construction using the library and custom construction

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to teach students to work with software commonly used in printing practice and to provide an overview of the technical aspects of page design for various printing techniques and product types, as well as its output into a format suitable for further prepress steps.
On completion of this course, the student is able to design and layout various types of publications and printed products, produce required output files, check the important parameters that influence the resulting quality as well as use the corresponding prepress software.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of Introduction to Graphic Arts and Printing Technology, Prepress I and Typography courses. At least elementary English language skills and computer practice are recommended.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Home assignment evaluation, Student performance assessment

To complete the course, the student has to elaborate seminar exercises and the main semester project meeting the specified requirements. During the exam, the theoretical knowledge as well as the quality and presentation of the project are evaluated.
