Course content
Overview of printing techniques, types of offset printing, design of printing machines, drying of offset inks; offset printing - printing plate, wetting solution (types of printing plates, preparation of offset printing plate, composition of wetting solution, hardness, conductivity and pH of wetting solution, alcohol wetting); offset printing - wetting (emulsification of the wetting solution into the printing ink, rheological behaviour of the printing emulsion); offset printing - surface tension, wetting of the printing plate (surface tension, contact angle, Young's equation, cohesive and adhesion energy, surface energy measurement); offset printing - ink transfer, pressure effect, ink penetration (ink stickiness, ink splitting in the contact strip, ink dusting, Walker-Fetsk equations, transfer curve, Tollennar equation, capillary pressure, capillary ink absorption in the paper, ink penetration rate and depth); offset printing without wetting (printing plates, ink transfer principle, advantages and disadvantages of offset printing without wetting); principle of digital printing, overview of digital printing techniques; inkjet - principles, printed materials, inks, techniques; electrophotography - principles, materials, techniques; electrography, magnetography, ionography, electrostatic printing, elkography, thermography, nanography, recording on photographic material.

  • Preparation for a final test - 20 hours per semester
  • Preparation for an exam - 40 hours per semester

Learning outcomes
To provide an overview of ofset and digital printing technologies.
The course provides knowledge of the principles and methods used in offset and digital printing and the quality of prints required for employees in the printing industry.
Prerequisites
Completion of courses C159 Základy tiskových technik and C156 Záznamové a reprodukční technologie.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination

Examination has test and oral parts. Gained knowledge is running tested 2 times in semester and/or at the end in written examination test. Oral examination is discussion about chosen query. Whole classification includes: Running tests or written examination test - 60 %, Oral examination - 40 %.
