Learning outcomes
The course introduces students to the fundamentals of physics and chemistry of materials with emphasis on their use in surface protection of materials. It is a review of mechanical, thermal, electrical and magnetic properties and their relationship to the structure and chemistry of materials. By the nature of the course, maximum emphasis is placed on the properties of the interface between two materials. The course is complemented by advanced methods of layer formation (generally CVD and PVD), electrolytic methods and enamelling.
