Course content
|
Introduction, nomenclature of polymers Polyreactions, step and chain, polycondensation, polyaddition. Radical addition polymerization, reactivity ratios, methods of radical polymerization - solution, suspension, emulsion polymerization. Ionic and coordination polymerization. Polyolefines - polyethylene, polypropylene. Diene and polystyrene polymers. Polyhalogeneolefines, polyvinyl esters. Fiber forming polymers. Acrylic polymers. Polyesters, polyamides, aramides. Composite materials. Synthetic resins. Processing and recycling of polymers.

Learning outcomes
|
The course explains principles of macromolecular chemistry, polymerization reactions and basic properties of polymers. Second part of the course is an introduction to polymers manufacturing and processing. Included are plastics, rubbers, fiber forming polymers, natural polymers. Various aspects of polymer manufacturing and processing are mentioned as chemical engineering, safety problems, hazardous monomers etc.
Student is educated in principles of macromolecular chemistry, polymerization reactions and basic properties of polymers, manufacturing and processing of plastics, rubbers, fiber forming polymers, natural polymers. He is aware of various aspects of polymer manufacturing and processing.
