Course content
|
The term biopolymer, their distribution. Meaning in nature. Polysaccharides, basic types - division. Cellulose - biosynthesis, distribution in nature. Areas of use. Acquiring cellulose from wood - use. Fibres from regenerated cellulose and their derivatives. Modification of cellulose, oxidised cellulose, carboxymethylcellulose - forms and uses. Starch - its modification. Chitin - chitosan, modification possibilities and their use. Hyaluronic acid - properties and uses. Biopolymer fibering. Algic acid - alginates. Proteins - basic characteristics, chemical composition, supermolecular structure. Modification options. Polyisoprenes - Rubbers. Aliphatic polyesters - the main types and their uses. Biopolymers in composites for medicine.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to introduce listeners to the structure and properties of biopolymers and the possibilities of their chemical and physical modification with regard to their use.
The test is oral. The basic form of the test is the debate over the selected circuits. The degree of knowledge acquired and the ability to combine knowledge acquired in the subject into the broader context of the field studied is examined.

Wider general knowledge in physical chemistry, organic chemistry and technology, polymer chemistry and chemical engineering.
