Course content
Current energy sources in Czech Republic, Europe and world, renewable energy and their impact on the Hydroelectricity, technology of large scale and micro hydro systems, types of turbines Wind power, types of wind turbines, examples from Czech Republic Solar energy, thermal systems, solar cells, Stirling motor, solar power stations in Czech Republic, Europe and in the world Thermal energy, thermal power stations, used technology, steam and gas turbines, IGCC, storage and application of CO2 Nuclear energy, types of nuclears reactors, nuclear power stations Role of biomass as source of energy, biogas Composition of biomass, biopolymers Key polysacharides for production of biofuel Isolation and application of starch Isolation and application of celulose Vegetable oils, composition, production of biofuel Biorefineries based on thermochemical processes, Biofine process, second generation biofuels Chemicals based on vegetable oils

Learning outcomes
It is arranged for the students to become acquainted with the basics of fundamental processes for energy and material production using renewable sources
All graduates are expected to have an ability to identify and formulate engineering problems in renewable sources technology.

Mathematic I, General and Inorganic Chemistry I, Organic Chemistry I

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination

There are written and oral examination. Primary form of exam is the debate about selected themes. Level of acquired knowledge, conceptions and application acquirements is examined. Knowledge is examined by two tests during semester and their results are included into total classification.
