Course content
Solution/membrane equilibria. Measurement of sorption isotherms for selected electrolytes. Conductivity measurements of ion-exchange membranes. Transport characteristics of the solution/membrane systems in the presence of electric field. Pressure-driven membrane processes. Microfiltration in the presence of two-phase flow. Mathematical modelling and intensification of processes with two-phase flow. Nanofiltration. Desalination of organic dyes using diafiltration. Donnan phenomenon. Viscoelestic liquids, their flow through the beds.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Work with text (with textbook, with book), Laboratory work
Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to create a complex concept on special methods used in the characterization of membrane systems and non-Newtonian fluids.
After this course, the student is able to find his bearings in the flow characteristics of non-newtonian fluids. He is also able to interpret measured data on the membrane systems without and with electric field. He is qualified to select a polymeric or ceramic membrane for the application given.
Prerequisites
Chemical engineering I, Chemical engineering II

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination

There is an oral examination. The primary form is a debate about selected themes, theoretical knowledge being assessed. Moreover, the results of the individual laboratory tasks are also included into the total classification.
