Course content
Nitration agents. Aromatic nitration, properties of nitroarenes. Processes, safety, economy of production, technology of arenes mononitration. Polynitroarenes, polynitroarenes thermal stability theory, thermally stable nitroarenes. Nitroparafines, physically-chemical properties, mononitration mechanism. Nitroparafines (geminal, vicinal), synthetic methods for important nitroparafines. Nitramines, nitrating agent for nitramines, N-nitration of sec-amines, N-Mannich condensations and nitrolysis of the condensation products, technology of important cyclic nitramines. Nitrosoamines. Nitric acid esters. Technology of liquid, solid and polymeric esters of nitric acid. Anorganic nitrates. Prime explosives, history, requirements for prime explosives properties, technology of manufacture. Types of prime explosives.

Learning outcomes
To introduce main types of chemical reactions used for production of energetic materials. To introduce methods of preparation, basic properties, application and safety characteristics of individual types of energetic materials.
Student obtains knowledge about individual groups of energetic materials, their method of preparation, technology, application and limitations in the use due to their power, sensitivity, stability and toxicity.
