The aim of this subject is extension of knowledge in area of chemistry of natural compounds and biochemistry. The overview of synthetic methods for preparation of amino acids, peptides, saccharides, lipids, vitamins, nucleic acid, alkaloids, terpenes and steroids is presented. The structure and chemical properties of these classes of natural compounds are lectured in detail. The principles of chemical reactions proceeding in nature are explained from view of organic and physical chemistry. This subject also deals with application of natural compounds and their derivatives in human and veterinary medicine, food industry and agriculture.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of course is to extend the general knowledges in area of natural compounds. The course units are focused on tasks of preparation, structure and chemical and biological properties of peptides, proteins, saccharides, lipids, vitamins, nucleic acid, alkaloids, terpenoids and steroids in detail. The processes found in live-systems are studied from the point of view of organic chemistry, biochemistry, oranic synthesis, reactivity of functional groups and spectroscopic methods.
The students gain the advanced knowledges from the area of chemistry in live-systems (biosynthesis, structure, biological and chemical properties of natural compounds).
