Course content
1. Basic properties of materials 2. Structure, composition, influence on properties, atomic composition, binding energy, electronegativity 3. Properties of substances, states of matter, conductors, semiconductors and insulators, band theory of conduction 4. Conductors, conduction of current in metals, dependence of conduction of el. current on conditions, highly conductive metals (Cu, Ag, Al) 5. Other metals (Zn, Cd, Sn, Ni, Ti, Co, Cr, Pt, Pd, Ir, Os, Rh, Ru, Ag) 6. Refractory metals (W, Mo, Ta), resistor alloys, contacts, solders 7. Magnetism, nature, magnetic materials 8. Electrical insulators, basic properties, classification and overview of important insulators 9. Semiconductors, intrinsic conductivity, band theory, intrinsic conductivity, elementary semiconductors, compounds 10. Charge carriers, influence of external factors, surface phenomena, transient phenomena 11. Production and cleaning of semiconductors, formation of transitions 12. Production of integrated circuits, thin film technology, component technology 13. Printed circuit technology

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the properties, physical principles and requirements of materials used in electrical engineering.
After completing the course the student will gain knowledge about materials used in electrical engineering.
