History and evolution of computers. Main parts of a personal computer. Principle of PC operation. Stream of information and information processing in a PC. Principle of a bus, advantages, disadvantages and examples of internal buses. Computer memory, principle of operation of memory elements, semiconductor memory, magnetic disk and tape drives and optical storage. Computer peripherals, data I/O. Direct control of peripherals by a processor, peripheral controllers and buses. Computer networks. Windows 10 and Linux OSs. VMware Workstation a virtual PC. Options for increasing PC speed. System reliability, data backup and power backup (UPS). Embedded system and control system. Mobile wireless data transfers and mobile systems.

The course is only for ERASMUS students. The aim of the course is to get students acquainted with construction of a personal computer, basic maintenance of a computer and peripheral devices, work with Windows 10 and Linux OS and with trends in areas ICT using current information.
Students are going to gain basic knowledge of the construction of personal computers, peripheral devices, networks, operating systems and diagnostic means. After course completion, students will be able to independently carry out basic computer maintenance, diagnose and fix HW faults and SW bugs.
