Course content
Specifics of banking business. Development and structure of the Czech banking sector. Financial analysis in banking. Controlling bank. Specific types of banking. Selected financial market institutions. Trends in banking and financial markets. Fintech and digitization of banks. International banking.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming), Work with text (with textbook, with book)
  • Participation in classes - 30 hours per semester
  • Preparation for a credit (assessment) - 20 hours per semester
  • Preparation for an exam - 52 hours per semester
  • Preparation of a presentation (report) - 24 hours per semester
  • Writing a seminar paper - 24 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
Objective of the course - aims of the course unit - to understand in more detail the specific mechanisms of operation and management of banks and the context of financial markets.
A student who has successfully completed the course can: define the specifics of banking business; characterize selected institutions of financial markets and banking systems; identify key trends in banking and financial markets; characterize the positives and negatives of the activities of non-bank financial intermediaries; characterize the development of banking in the Czech Republic. A student who has successfully completed the course will be able to: analyze the financial situation of the bank and assess financial risks; explain the benefits and risks of selected financial market institutions (sovereign wealth funds, mutual funds) in the global financial market; explain the benefits and risks of investing through mutual funds; define the main institutions and principles of international banking. A student who has successfully completed the course is able to: understand in detail the principles and specifics of banking; clearly and convincingly communicate to experts and laypeople information about the nature of professional problems in the field of banking and financial markets, with their own opinion on their solution.
Prerequisites
The student should have knowledge related to: - issues of economic policy of the state (goals, tools), - financial system and allocation of savings - commercial banks and money creation.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination, Student performance assessment

The assignment is granted upon completion of the following conditions: discussion of the current situation , passing the final test. The examination is oral.
