Course content
Theories of regional development, its origin and development. Main economic theories and its influence on regional development theories. Neoclassical and neo-liberal regional development theories. Structuralistic approaches. Critical realistic approaches. Institutional directions. Contemporary regional policy period.

Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming)

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to present theoretical approaches in regional development. Understanding to the historical evolution helps to better understand contemporary regional policy on the EU and on the state level Student is able to identify main regional theories and put them into the geopolitical and historical framework. He/she describes results and tendencies of applied regional policies and knows foundations of nowadays attitudes to the regional development.
Student is able to identify basic hisotrical regional theories. Theoretical basement is the foundation to understand conterporary regional development policy of the EU and of the Czech Republic.

Student performance assesment Seminar paper Written examination The examination is granted upon copmpletion of the folowing conditions: attendance at seminars, submission and adjustment of the seminar paper and passing written test
