Course content
|
Basic terms. Practical utilization of GIS. Modeling of geographic objects (focused on vector and raster data models). Data sources. Analytical and synthetical functions of GIS Data visualization, introduction into cartography (cartography, map projections, coordinate systems, design of maps, types of maps).

Learning outcomes
|
The subject is dedicated to Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Attention is paid to the basic terms, structure of GIS, application of GIS, examples of GIS usage in practice, analytical and synthetical functions of GIS and data visualization.
Student will be able to apply practically the basic methods of data visualization and methods of spatial analyses, particularly used for the vector data treatment and analyses.

Basic knowledge of utilization and design of relational databases.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral examination, Written examination, Home assignment evaluation
The assignment is granted upon elaboration of all tasks assigned during seminars and upon successful elaboration and defence of the seminar project. The examination consists of both oral and written part (minimum is 65 %). The level of knowledge is examined as well as the student ability to apply acquired knowledge on practical problem solving.
