Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming), Methods of individual activities
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the geographic information systems (GIS). Basic terms, GIS structure, GIS applications, analytic functions, the spatial object representation, visualization and output generation are introduced.
Students will be able to apply practically the basic methods of data visualization and methods of spatial analyses, particularly used in the vector data processing.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of databaases: - Architecture - Data modelling approaches - Structured data modelling, entitities and relationships. - Transormation of data models. - Normalisation of relational data model.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination, Home assignment evaluation

The assignment is granted upon elaboration and defence of the seminar project. The examination consists of both oral and written part. The level of knowledge is examined as well as the student ability to apply acquired knowledge on practical problem solving.
