Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to provide an introduction into the international system. An close attention is paid to its actors, regulation, capabilities, and contemporary agenda. In addition, the course pays attention to the most relevent actors to the Czech defence and security policy, such as UN, NATO, and EU.
Students who passed the exemination are able: - to identify relevant actors in the international security system; - to apply relevant procedures and rules established by the UN when an emergency should be resolved; - to describe aim, bodies, and agenda of the international organizations, such as UN, NATO, EU, and OSCE; - to explain the importance of national capabilities, such as diplomacy, inteligence service, and soft power for a protection of national interests in the international system; - to distinguish between humanetarien and development aid in the nexus with warfare and a humanetarian catastrophe. Students who passed the exemination can: - analyse internatinal news in accordance with regulations of the international system; - apply the AAA-model (an arena, actors, and an agenda) in order to explain intenational relations and conflicts; - analyse behaviour of individual actors, such as the heads of the states, the heads of the governments, ministers, from point of the view of national polities, cultures, and national interests; - provide a relevent analysis of particular international events, such as summits, visits, conferences, etc. Students who passed the exemination: - knows international news and he/she is able to take a position in the opinion of the national security and defence policy; - understands the ethics of dis/armament and risk of war; - is able to convince experts and public by his/her analysis of an international event.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral examination, Student performance assessment, Discussion, Presentation
In order to get a right to be examined, each student is obligated to take part in workshops. Each student has collect 5 points at least. The poinst are given for student´s activities, such as team work, public briefing, a discussion with the lector. Besides, students ought to draft an essay. The final examination is oral. A student ought to pick a qustion (topic). He/she has a short time for taking notes about the topic in order to be able to discuss with the examinator.
