America from Columbus to the 18th Century. Plantation and Puritan Colonies. The American Revolution. Jeffersonian and Jacksonian America. The USA in the 19th Century. Slavery. Social Reform Movement. The Civil War and Reconstruction. American West. The Guilded Age. The USA in the 20th Century. World Wars and after.

Learning outcomes
Students understand the historical development of Great Britain and the U.S.A. from ancient times to the present. Therefore, they can, on an elementary level, assess critically contemporary social and cultural phenomena in their historical context. KPUAJ competence 1.1.4.
Students can understand a full range of historical eras and connect individual historical events and processes to European and global history.

We require 70 % attendance at lectures. Course ends in a written examination.
