Course content
Key concepts - evaluation, assessment, testing. Types of tests. Validity, reliability, practicality of the tests; backwash effect. Stages of test construction. Testing general language ability. Testing subskills. Testing receptive skills. Testing productive skills. Self-evaluation.

Learning outcomes
Teaching English as a Foreign Language I is one of the core subjects of the Professional module. It draws on the basic components of student teachers professional competence acquired in the undergraduate programme. Therefore, it aims to further develop students´ skill to orientate in complex issues related to the content and process of teaching / learning English to primary / lower secondary school learners, namely in the area of evaluation, assessment and testing.
Students´ professional competence is developed in the area of evaluation, assessment and testing in ELT. The students acquire the skills to evaluate/assess learner progress by means of applying both social and individual progress norm, with regard to formative function of evaluation.

1. Active participation in seminars (max. 2 missed classes). In the 2015/2016 academic year the course is taught in cooperation with Gymnáziem a SOŠ Přelouč. Student will visit the school on October xx, November xx, December xx, Erasmus students are not involved in the school visits. 2. Completion of all the tasks set during the term. 3. Interview based on the following required materials: 1 test focused on a particular language skill, 2 activities focused on the development of self-evaluation of the pupils, list of literature.
