Roman Britain (55 BC-440 AD). Anglo-Saxon Britain (440-1066). The Early Middle Ages. The Normans. The Plantagenets (1066-1290). The Later Middle Ages. The Plantagenets. The Wars of Roses. The Tudors (1290-1603). The Stuarts. The Revolution. The Restoration. The Glorious Revolution (1603-1688). The 18th Century. The Empire. The French Revolution. The Industrial Revolution. The 19th Century. Liberalism. Colonialism. India, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa. The 20th Century. World Wars and after. Scotland, Wales, Ireland. America from Columbus to the 18th Century. Plantation and Puritan Colonies. The American Revolution. Jeffersonian and Jacksonian America. The USA in the 19th Century. Slavery. Social Reform Movement. The Civil War and Reconstruction. American West. The Guilded Age. The USA in the 20th Century. World Wars and after.

Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to introduce the historical development of Great Britain from ancient times to the present, in connection to other countries in which English played an important role, either as means of communication or as an official language, i.e. the history of the United States of America, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the South African Republic. For a better understanding of history and of the present, historical events and processes will be considered alongside world and European events.
Students will be able to understand the past and the present and they will be able to connect individual historical events and processes with European and global history.
